Bears 1 - the evolution of a bearmaker

Sue hard at work embossing gift tags

This page covers the emergence of a new bearmaker, from diffidently using commercial patterns to evolving my own designs, my own style, and eventually to offering my own creations for adoption by other bear-lovers.

In the beginning, I tried several different styles and sizes, making many as gifts for friends, several for Bears who Care and for my wonderful doctor.

pictures of bears made for Forsyth family

These are some of the first bears I ever made. The trio in the background in gold fur were sent to Glebe Police station to be passed on to the Forsyth boys and their Mum, after their Dad was killed (a policeman at Glebe Station). *By the way, I never did hear if they got to their destination, if you live near Glebe Police Station (NSW, Australia) or know someone who dies, I would love to know if they got to the boys ok. It was this idea that gave birth to my biggest dream - trying to get teddy bears into the arms of as many kids in crisis as possible. That is what Bears who Care Inc. is all about, and I am national co-ordinator of the group I started. picture of mini bears by sue

This is not a very good picture- I will put better ones up when I can, but as you can see, I have moved into mini bear making. On 11 August 98 I finished sewing up a bear of my own design, and I now have my own designed bears up here for adoption. click here to go straight to my bears for adoption page!

10% of the sale price of each bear or kit sold will be donated to Bears who Care, enabling us to buy more bears to put into the arms of kids in crisis. The beginning of my bear making career. Maybe one day I will be as good as the bear artists whose pages I share with you on this site.
